The Inclined Plane underwent an extensive rehabilitation project involving mechanical, electrical and structural components, along with additional improvements to preserve the historic facility and ensure its safe and reliable operation for years to come.
The rehabilitation required significantly more time than originally anticipated due to the historic nature of the facility, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain challenges, foundry closures, and additional engineering needs identified as work progressed. Additional evaluation, design revisions, component fabrication, testing, and regulatory review were required before the Inclined Plane could safely return to passenger service.
The observation / waiting deck and steps are open.
